How to format HTML

    Paste the markup

    Paste source up to 256 KiB UTF-8. Select two or four spaces for formatting.

  2. 02

    Choose the indent size

    Choose 2 or 4 spaces. The sample is preloaded; the new setting takes effect when you press Format.

  3. 03

    Press Format

    Press Format. The local parser adjusts HTML tags while preserving the original whitespace gaps and raw script/style text; inspect the target page.

    Check the statistics

    Compare UTF-8 input and output bytes and the savings percentage. A negative saving means the result grew; inspect it before copying or downloading.

    Copy or download the result

    Use Copy result for the clipboard or Download to save toolars.html — Copy result is the fast path when the formatted markup is headed straight into an editor or a review comment. Reset clears the panes for the next document.

What HTML Formatter actually does

A generated one-line email template is hard to review. Format its tags locally, then compare the result with the original in the email preview, including spacing and embedded styles.

Common questions

What indentation options are available?
Choose 2 or 4 spaces. HTML tag printing uses a 100-column width, but original text gaps and script/style content stay untouched; tabs are not offered.
Does Format also validate my markup?
The parser can reject malformed HTML and show a position, but this is not a full validator. Browser parsing, template semantics and application behavior still need checking.
Why did the byte count grow after formatting?
Changed tag spacing or quoting can increase UTF-8 bytes; text gaps and raw script/style content stay intact. The byte count measures size, not correctness.
Does formatting change what the page renders?
Original text gaps and embedded script/style content are preserved, but tag formatting does not guarantee identical rendering. Compare the template in its target environment.
What are the limits?
Input is limited to 256 KiB and output to 512 KiB. The local Worker has separate five-second startup and run budgets; editing or Cancel stops it.
Is my markup uploaded anywhere?
No. Source is parsed inside a local Worker and is never executed, uploaded or saved. Parser acceptance is not application correctness or browser compatibility.
