Worked example
Convert captions and delay them by half a second
Use one plain-text cue to verify the sign and unit of a timing change before converting a whole file. A positive offset delays every cue; a negative offset brings it earlier. Conversion does not listen to the video or discover the right timing automatically.

Steps to reproduce
Choose VTT output and enter 500 milliseconds. Convert, inspect the timestamps and download. Test the result in the intended player before using the same offset on a longer caption file.
Check before you use it
If a negative offset would move a start before zero, reduce the shift. Overlap and ordering notices need human review; they do not authorize silent retiming. Styling, markup and unsupported VTT blocks are rejected rather than discarded. Save a copy of the original subtitle file before editing its plain-text cues.

Common questions
Which subtitles are supported?
SRT / VTT · UTF-8 · Up to 1 MiB. Use up to 1 MiB and 10,000 cues. Only plain-text cues are supported. Remove VTT identifiers, headers, NOTE/STYLE/REGION blocks, cue settings, markup and entities before converting. Conversion errors identify the source line and cue when available. After conversion, review overlapping or out-of-order timings and jump to the source line to edit. Notices do not change timings or block download; confirm intentional overlaps against the video.
Does this upload or transcribe media?
Plain-text cues only. No transcription or styling conversion. Files stay on this device.
How does timing adjustment work?
Enter a whole-number offset in milliseconds. A positive value such as 500 delays every cue by half a second; -500 moves every cue earlier. Conversion stops if any result would be earlier than zero or later than 99:59:59.999. Check the output against the video; the tool does not detect the correct offset.
How can I tell whether one offset is enough?
Check a recognizable spoken phrase near the beginning, middle and end in the target player. If the same delay is present throughout, a single offset may help. If the gap grows or varies, shifting every cue by one amount cannot repair the timing; edit the affected cues or use a subtitle editor. This converter does not analyze audio.
How should I handle an overlap notice?
An overlap may be intentional when two people speak together. Use the reported cue or source line to inspect both intervals, then compare them with the video. Notices do not silently retime or block an otherwise valid download. Invalid ranges, negative shifted times and unsupported markup are errors; correct the source and convert again, preserving the original.
